Born to Adrian J. and Gertrude E. (Dusenberry) Gazelle, he married Connie Haines on May 27, 1961 in Eureka. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Adrian (Lori) Gazelle, Jr., Corean (Charles) Fowler, Teri Hill, Casey Gazelle and William (Charlotte) Gazelle; one brother, Merle (Marsha) Gazelle; four sisters, Billie (Leonard) Pamson, Doris Courtoise, Loretta Lawson and Louetta Gazelle; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Green, two brothers, John and Thomas Gazelle, and one great-granddaughter, Rae Lynn King.

Jim worked as a custodian for 10 years at Neil Armstrong Grade School in East Peoria. He also worked for the Eureka Grainland Elevator for 30 years. Jim was an EMT for Eureka Rescue Squad in the 1970s.
