Carl Edwin (who went by Edwin), the son of Per Johann (John) and Eva Johanna (Samuelson) Berglund, was born in Eagle Lake Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was baptized at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church Sunday, 10 Aug 1879, and confirmed there Sunday, 15 Oct 1893. His ancestral roots are in Borås Kommun, Älvsborg County, in the province of Västergötland, Sweden.

He married Elina Okeson Wednesday, 2 July 1913. They lived in Eagle Lake twp and had five children. On Friday, 12 July 1929, while in Ashby just after unloading cream cans, Edwin died suddenly of a stroke or aneurysm, five days before his 50th birthday. He was buried in the Eagle Lake Cemetery.
