Rev. Kenneth R. Arthur, 73, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Tuesday October 5, 2010, at home with his loving family. He was born December 23, 1936 in Altoona, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Kenneth William and Margaret Jessie Arthur. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lemoyne. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Peggy Arthur and their children Dr. Kenneth R. Arthur of Lancaster, Kimberly Arthur-Tressler and her husband Richard of Mechanicsburg, Karen Santanna and her husband James of Mechanicsburg and Kristin Lombardi and her husband Joseph of Camp Hill. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Kenneth Arthur, Ronald Tressler, Jessica Arthur, Victoria Arthur, Antonia Santanna and Grace Lombardi and one great granddaughter, Morgan Miller. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald Arthur and his wife Karen of Hiton, NY and a sister, Judith Rossman and her husband William of Duncansville, PA.
He graduated from Altoona High School in 1954; received an A.B. Degree from Lycoming College in 1958; and graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity in 1961. He was admitted into full membership of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1961 where he was a member for 51 years. His pastoral ministry, which began in 1957, continued for thirteen years during which time he served four churches: Allenwood, Elimsport; Orbisonia; and Watsontown. He was appointed as the Assistant to the Administrator of the United Methodist Home for Children in 1970 and was elected Administrator in July of 1971. He retired in June, 2006, after devoting thirty-five years of his life working with children.
Ken was an avid traveler and in particular loved cruising with his wife. Ken's greatest passions were his family, his Ministry and The United Methodist Children's Home. His life was filled with love, humor, generosity, honor, compassion and integrity. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 10/12, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. A second Visitation will be held on Wednesday 10/13 from 9 – 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Lemoyne, with funeral services being held immediately after. The Rev. Jay Saxe will be officiating with Rev. Gene Liddick assisting. Burial will be in Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA on October 14 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to The United Methodist Home for Children, Inc., 5120 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
