After graduating from Fayetteville High School, Dorothy "Dot" Britt Klisiewicz held several civil service positions on Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, where she was well known for her loyalty and strong work ethic. Dot married Henry Dennis Klisiewicz in 1947, and together, they raised three children. Dot and her family lived in Athens, Greece, during the late 1950s, when Henry was in the Army, before returning to their permanent home in Fayetteville. Dot was a true patriot, and knew firsthand the sacrifices that meant, having lost her brother in World War II. Dot attended Person Street Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years and later Baywood Church. She was an active member of the Women's Ministry and enjoyed working on the annual November Harvest Train committee, which provisioned the Falcon Children's Home. Dot was also instrumental in fundraising for the home through her tireless efforts with church rummage sales. Dot loved babies and truly looked forward to attending the church nursery when called upon. Never a complainer, Dot took life's obstacles in stride, maintaining her faith in miracles, even when faced with the toughest of challenges. Dot was the "neighborhood mom." Her home was a familiar gathering place for her children and their friends. Even after her children were grown, the neighborhood children flocked to the home to spend time with Dot and enjoy a special homemade treat. Dot served as a homeroom mother and playground monitor when her children were in school. Dot loved dogs, particularly the family springer spaniels, which she spoiled liked children. Dot was a wonderful homemaker, a loving wife, mother and sister; and still found time to be a dear aunt, a kind neighbor and loyal friend. Dot held a true compassion for others and served as caregiver for her son and husband in his failing years. Dot was happiest when she was giving of herself, whether it was to God and the church or to her friends and family. Reserved and humble, Dot made it all look so easy, as only she could do. Dot's absence will be deeply felt by her family and all who were blessed to know her. Dot will live on through the traits she has passed on to her daughters and son, and the many lives she has touched. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Stephen Klisiewicz of Fayetteville; daughters Teresa K. Johnson of Apex, and Mary K. Gallimore of Fayetteville; brothers, Ronald Britt of Florence S.C., and Curtis Britt of Spartanburg S.C.; and a number of nieces; and nephews. Funeral services will be held today, Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Baywood Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. David W. Mosher officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society of N.C., 401 Harrison Oak Blvd., Suite 200, Cary, NC 27513; or Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2306 W., Suite 125, Greensboro, NC 27407.
