John N. Cook, 88, died yesterday afternoon at a Chico Convalescent hospital where he had resided for the past 5 years.
He was born in Johnsonville, Plumas County [CA] on July 27, 1880. He came to Orland in 1916 and operated a butcher shop.
Cook later raised dairy cattle and sheep and was active in civic affairs. He was one of the developers of the Glenn County Fair, and served on its board for over 25 years.
He was a member of the Federate Church of Orland
Surviving are a son, Norman L. Cook, and a daughter Mrs. Grace Porter, both of Glendale; two sisters, Sadie Trevethick of Yuba City and Hattie Anderson of Orinda, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Thursay in the Chico Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Brown officiating.
Entombment will follow in the family crypt in the Chico Memorial Mausoleum by the side of his wife Maude, who preceded him in death in 1967
