Mrs. Sarah Ann Brady of Strasburg passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23, 1929 at 4:00 o'clock at the home of a grandson, R. Virgil Athey in Decatur, where she was visiting. She was seriously ill only a few days. She was born in this community on Feb. 2, 1854,the daughter of Joseph and Maria (Brown) Renner . She married James Andrew Brady June 11,1871
Practically all her life was spent in Eastern Shelby county, several years in Strasburg except for a couple years that they spent in Eureka-Salem Township- Greenwood County Kansas .Sara lost her hearing due to an infection after the birth of a child.Despite this handicap she was a very jovial person and communicated by you writing on the slate that she carried with her. James died early and left Sara to raise the children under some severe hardships. She was survived by two daughters, Mrs. William S.(Lillie) Richards of Villa Grove and Mrs. Samuel (Stella) Shallenberger of Paxton; by two sons, Joseph Brady of Bement and Thomas Brady of Strasburg; by a brother, Michael Renner of Mills, SD; by a half-brother, Andrew Renner; and by 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A daughter Martha (Mattie) Edwards and a son Charles are deceased. Funeral and burial services were held at Richland church, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. A. F. Waters of Strasburg officiating.
The grave is located in the NW corner of Richland Cemetery by her daughter Lillie and grandson Harry Richards.
