Gertrude B. Wortman Zach, 87, of Fremont, formerly of Genoa and Grand Island, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont. Gertrude was born October 17, 1922 at Neligh, NE to Henry S. and Gertrude (Guenther) Wortman

Gertrude grew up with her grandparents at Creighton. At the age of 8 she moved to Bloomfield, NE where she finished school and then at the age of 16 she moved to Omaha with her aunt.

Gertrude married Henry Zach September 22, 1941 at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey, NE. He died February 25, 1996.

After marriage they lived in Elkhorn and Omaha and later moved to Winnebago. In 1973 they moved to Grand Island to retire. Gertrude then moved to Genoa in 1997 and finally to Fremont in September, 2002 where she resided at A.J. Merrick Manor.

Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Zach of Omaha, Arnold and Annette Zach of Lakeville, Minn., Rev. Charles E. Zach of Junction City, Ore., David and Robbie Zach of Treynor, Iowa, Kenneth and Becky Zach of Elkhorn and Henry and Gayle Zach of Brandon, S.D.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn Petersen of St. Paul, Mary and Greg Stevens of Omaha and Rosemary Wipf of Hillsboro, Ore.; 27 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
