"James S. Brammer died of cancer, at his home near Spann, Wednesday, March 18, 1908.

He was 53 years of age, being born at Gap Creek, Aug. 26, 1852 he was married to Juda Spann Dec. 22, 1879, from which union 12 children were born, eleven girls and one boy, nine of which survive him.

At the age of 34 he united with the Baptist church. He was an enemy to no one, to know him was to like him. It seemed as if he daily communed with the angels and imbibed some of their purity, his life was truly beautiful in the light of God. He bore his sufferings with great fortitude and when the evening tide was falling he bid his wife and children goodbye and asked them to be good children and meet him in Heaven. There were several of his friends at his bedside, he shook hands with them and knew them all. He then asked the time of day, when he was told he said he would soon be asleep. Soon after he passed away as sweetly as a child going to sleep."

"Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Davis. His remains were laid to rest in the new burying ground at Spann."
