Jean Bass Burdette, who would have been 77 on her birthday, died Thursday, September 23, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her family following complications from an unexpected battle with cancer. She was born September 28, 1933, in Wayne County, Ky., to James William Conley Raines and Eva Carter Raines. Jean married James O. Bass in 1949 and raised two children. James was killed in an automobile accident in 1978. She lived in this area most of her life. Jean retired as a dietician at Cedar Springs. She also had worked at Heritage House Nursing Home and Friends Fellowship Community. Jean enjoyed gardening, cooking, decorating and most of all taking care of her family. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her Christian example will continue to touch those who knew her. Jean will be missed and forever in our hearts.

Survivors include her second husband of 30 years, Robert G. Burdette; son, James H. "Jim" Bass (wife Veta) of Richmond; daughter, Janie E. Thomas (husband Scott) of Richmond; grandchildren, Michelle Moser, Jason Bass, Seth Thomas and Jessicca Griffin; great-grandchild, Landen S. Griffin; two sisters, Marie Atkinson of Fountain City and Janet Smith (husband Jim) of Carrollton, Ky.; several nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and stepchildren, Priscilla Jones of Centerville and Robert Ray Burdette of Woodward, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Conley and Eva Raines; one brother, Vascoe Raines; and first husband, James O. Bass.
