Andrew George Nau, 93
JUNE 6, 2008 - Zanesville Times Recorder
CALDWELL - Andrew George Nau, 93, of Caldwell, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at his home with his sons at his side.
Andrew was recently admitted to the hospital twice with pneumonia and hypertension and, due to his advanced age, was unable to recover. Thanks to the help of caregivers Eola, Sally and Linda, the family was able to give him the gift of staying in his own home for the past several years. Despite his dementia, the family was blessed he could still say three simple words: I love you.
He was born Nov. 13, 1914, at his family home in Enoch Township in Noble County. He was the seventh child of the late John and Philomena Rose Hupp Nau. A farmer and member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, Mr. Nau retired from Union Carbide. He had quick and funny stories that will be missed by all of his extended family.
Surviving are two sons, Herman (Betty) Nau of Caldwell and Can (Bonnie) Nau of Marietta; one son-in-law, Gary Braddock of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Netti (David) Halsey, Renee (Mike) Hupp, Joyce Rhodes, Sheila (Bryan) Rhodes, Mike (Brandee) Nau and Phil Braddock (Monica Ware); two sisters-in-law, Marie Burkhart Miller of Temperanceville and Marj (Badurina) Burkhart of Columbus; one brother-in-law, Herman Burkhart of Woodsfield; and 10 great-grandchildren, including Elisa Marie Halsey, who shares his birthday.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mary Burkhart Nau, whom he married Sept. 19, 1939, and who died March 22, 2006; a toddler son, Harry E. Nau, who died Aug. 8, 1949, of cystic fibrosis; one daughter, Theresa M. Nau Braddock, who died Sept. 15, 2005; and his siblings, Ida E. Burkhart, Therese M. Shilinski, Cora K. Meyers, Amelia P. Fogle, Edward J. Nau and Helen A. Miller.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today, June 6, at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East St. in Caldwell, with a Christian scripture service at 8 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, with Father Wayne Morris as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
