Walter C. Ross Sr., 77, a longtime Hoquiam resident, died Tuesday in a Hoquiam Nursing home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1906 in Rainier, Oregon to Pearl and Charles Ross. He came to Hoquiam as a young man and married Nellie C. Burchett in Hoquiam in 1926. She died in 1978.

He worked as a clipperman on the green chain for Harbor Plywood and later for Evans Products, retiring in 1972.

He belonged to the International Woodworkers of America Local 3-2 in Aberdeen.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. David (Marlene) McDougal of Hoquiam; two sons, Walter C. Ross Jr. of Twin Falls, Idaho and Joseph O. Ross of Montesano; two sisters, Leola Caruthers and Gladys Bergstrom, both of Aberdeen; three brothers, Orville of Aberdeen, Charly of Hoquiam, and Clarence of Nevada; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and other relatives.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coleman Mortuary.
