A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Brown, Runyan, Peters, Needham and Ackerman Families" by David E. Peters, 1926, page 118, states he was born of Scotch and Irish ancestry. He was an intelligent and interesting man to talk with. He was several times elected township trustee and other offices of trust. He served with the Company D, 11th O.V.I. throughout the Civil War. On 29 August on his way home to their farm, he was run over and killed by a fast running express train on the Baltimore & Ohio railroad, at a street crossing wast of the grain elevator in North Baltimore.
