This lady is my grandpa's cousin, the daughter of one my grandpa's favorite uncles, Silas Adair. Her father was Silas Adair, and her mother Olive McCollum. On the 1920 census, her maternal grandparents lived with her family - Nathan and Mary Dana of Vermont. (In the obituary below, Eulia's father is listed as Dana Adair, which is in error.)
Eulia left fond memories in the hearts of those who knew her. I wish I had been one of them, but I discovered her too late to know her. I did not know her married name and until I found her obituary, had no knowledge of her other than her maiden name and that she was Silas' daughter.
Eulia fell and broke a hip, and suffered complications of that incident. She drove until she was 95, and took no medications most of her life. Julia's husband Joe passed of a heart attack in his car, and his fierce black-backed terrier Bala stood guard over him to the dismay of those who came to help. Her father Silas and her brother Russell both died young (40's-50's) of heart attacks, but she and her mother Olive lived long lives.
Late in life she adopted a neglected neighborhood miniature cream apricot poodle named Suzy. She got Suzy a boyfriend and the two dogs gave her puppies, three of which she could not bear to part with - Teenka (who ate first and ruled the roost), Pierre (black) and Snowflake.
An annual highlight for her was the yearly "Night in Venice", one of the largest and longest continuously running boat parades in the world. Every year, Ocean City invites boaters from all over to light up a summer night starting at the foot of the Longport Bridge. Prizes are given to boats in categories like "Best Decorated", "Best Lighted", and "Most Original". Area residents with bayfront homes decorate their properties and there's a crafts fair in the neighborhood. Eulia faithfully decorated her home every year, including her last.

FRAIN, EULIA M., 96 - of Ocean City, passed away peacefully at her home early Sunday morning October 7, 2007.
Eulia was an extraordinary woman who graciously and infectiously touched many a life in her 96 years with us.
She was born August 16, 1911, in Conshohocken, PA.
She graduated West Chester College with a Teaching Degree. Eulia enriched, molded and taught fourth graders for 35 years at Lansdowne-Aldan School in Lansdowne, PA.
During the summers off, Eulia and her husband Joe had an antique shop in Swainton where their individual tales of where a treasured piece of furniture, glassware, etc. came from was always a delight to the appreciative buyer (even if most of the time the stories were a bit fabricated!)
Even after Eulia's retirement, her love and dedication for teaching continued at a small school in Marmora for mentally-handicapped boys. She was a member of the Questers O.C. [Ocean City] antique group and for over 30 years exhibited at the Great Sunnybrook Ballroom Antique Show every May and October in Pottstown, PA.
Eulia volunteered at the O.C. Historical Museum and for over 15 years at the Shore Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop where she received numerous volunteer awards.
Eulia didn't have a selfish bone in her body. She was always giving of herself whether it was to a complete stranger (e.g. she would take clothes every week to the doorman at S.M.H. to distribute to needy people) or to her many and dear friends.
Eulia and her husband Joe were original settlers on Ocean City's Snug Harbor back in the fifties. She decorated every Night in Venice since its conception winning many First Place awards, but mainly she enjoyed the warmth, friendship and camaraderie the event brought out throughout the lagoon.
Eulia will be remembered for her tenacity, great sense of humor, magnetic personality, kindness to all, and living each day to its fullest. She used to say "there are plenty of things to do in life if you want to do them, you just can't sit at home".
Eulia loved entertaining, cooking, gardening, antiques, shopping, luncheons and sharing "good times and lots of laughs" with friends.
A "Eulia" comes by once in a lifetime and we thank God it was in "ours".
