Robert Lee "Bob" Pirtle, Sr. was born in Dallas, Texas to the parents of Rev. Clarence Theodore Pirtle and Dovia Lee Houston on August 17, 1924. He was originally named after his father, Clarence, but was later renamed after his grandfather, Robert Lee Pirtle of Potter, Arkansas. Robert was raised in north central Dallas and attended North Dallas High School. During World War II he landed on a beach in Normandy, France and participated in the liberation of France.
When Robert Pirtle returned from the war he married a girl from his church, Nona Faye Bailey. From that marriage they had three children. Robert owned a refrigeration business named Tri-City Engineering in the late 40's and early 50's.
Robert died in 1968 and is buried in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
