ESTANCIA-Mrs. S. W. Hodgson burned to death Tuesday afternoon when fire destroyed her farm home about 12 miles southwest of here.
She and her husband were alone in the house when the fire started, apparently caused by an overheated stovepipe in the attic.
Both left the house to battle the flames, but because of the extreme cold they re-entered the burning home to secure their coats.
Hodgson went outside again, thinking his wife had preceded him.
Apparently she stumbled and fell inside the house. Before Hodgson could re-enter, the roof caved in, and he was unable to reach her.
Estancia and Willard fire departments were called, but by the time they reached the scene the house was in ashes.
The Hodgsons have been residents of this area for more than 40 years.
Hanlon Mortuary of Mountainair will announce funeral services.
