Edwin Forest Barnum, 73, died Thursday morning at his ranch near Proctor of natural causes. He was born Nov. 11,1911 to Henry and Blanche Barnum in Oakdale, Neb. As a youngster, he moved to South Dakota. In 1937, he married Margaret Ramey in Miller, S.D. The couple resided on a prairie ranch near Highmore, S.D. Following a move to the state of Washington, Barnum worked in a lumber mill at Raymond, Wash. The family returned to South Dakota and then moved to Montana, where they settled on a ranch in the Bitterroot Valley in 1956. After a divorce, Barnum moved to Proctor on the west shore of Flathead Lake, where he owned and operated a ranch. In 1969, he married Mary Derkson. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne, who died in Vietnam in 1968. Survivors Include his wife, who lives in Proctor; a son, Glen of Polson; two stepchildren, Mark Wentzel of California and Angela Wentzel of Proctor, two brothers, Flavious Barnum, Raymond, Wash, and Eugene Barnum of South Bend, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Swanson of Raymond, Wash., Ada Selting of Faulkton, S.D. and Mabelle of Sioux Falls, S.D. and by two grandchildren, Glen and Gary Barnum of Polson.
