Rondo Curtis, 95, passed away at his home in Payson on September 28.

He is survived by his three children: Howard Curtis, of South Daytona, FL, Blaine Curtis, of Laguna Beach, CA, and Karen Curtis, of Phoenix, AZ;six grandchildren (Blake Curtis, Glory Beijar, Crystal Curtis, Adam Curtis, Lesley Squire and Linda Napikoski); and eight great-grandchildren (Ethan, Lindsey and Kyle Squire; Iris, Siri and Bjorn Beijar; Brandon and Brian Curtis). He also leaves behind Fritz, his faithful dog and constant companion.

Rondo was born in Kingston, Utah on September 1, 1915. His parents, Charles and Ellen Curtis, had six other children: Monte, Dwight, Doyle, Raymond, Austin and Roy. Rondo graduated from high school in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1933.

He then enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the battleship U.S.S. West Virginia until 1937.

In 1938 Rondo married Geraldine Peery, of Payson, where they began their family. At the beginning of World War II they moved to Southern California, where Rondo worked in the shipyards building destroyers for the war effort.

Following the war the family returned to Payson and resided there for several years until Rondo became a power plant construction engineer for Ebasco Services. During the next 25 years, Rondo left a legacy of over 14 steam electric power plants in Illinois, Arizona, Kansas, Georgia, Indiana, Arkansas, Iowa, New Mexico, Wyoming, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Oregon.

Music was a big part of Rondo's and Geraldine's life. During their years in Payson they sang at many functions, with Geraldine at the piano.

Rondo, a natural athlete, took up golf at the age of 42. For the next 50 years he played golf regularly with two holes-in-one to his credit, most recently on the fifteenth hole of Gladstan at age 92.

Rondo retired in 1977, and he and Geraldine moved to Sun City, Arizona. They constructed a second home in Payson, where they spent their summers. Following a long battle with arthritis, in 1997 Rondo's beloved Geraldine passed away.

Rondo was a proud, wise and strong man. He made many friends throughout his long and full life, and he will be greatly missed.

He was a member of the LDS Church.
