Mrs Lucille Bush Taft, 88, of Harroun Road, Sylvania, a former public school teacher, secretary and well known golfer, died Friday in Lake Park Nursing Care Center, Sylvania, where she had been a patient two months.
Mrs. Taft was a 1919 graduate of Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in education. She subsequently taught Latin in the Washington township and Grand Rapids school systems in Wood County. After abandoning her teaching career, she was a secretary 12 years at Maplewood Elementary School, retiring in 1962.
A golf enthusiast, she won the Ladies Golf Championship at Highland Meadows Country Club in 1938. In recognition of her golfing prowess, she was awarded a lifetime membership in the country club. Then known as Lucille Bush, she remained a leading contender in the Toledo District Golf Association many years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sylvania, and the widow of Charles Bush and Harold Taft.
Surviving are her stepdaughter, Mrs. Matilda Taylor, and stepsons, Harold, William and Charles Taft.
