VERL A CHASE
DIES AT 57 YEARS
Had Been School Bus Driver
For Earlham for
15 Years
Verl A. Chase, Douglas township farmer and a bus driver for the Earlham school for 15 years, died Thursday, March 8, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He had suffered a heart attack the preceding day.
Mr. Chase was 57 years of age, and was a life-time resident of Madison county. He was born here Dec. 3, 1904, a son of Edward and Anna Applegate Chase. In 1934 he was married to Eunice Wright at Broken Bow, Nebr.
He was a member of the Worthington church, and the Madison county Sportsmen's club. His 15 years as a school bus driver made him the oldest driver in point of service in the Earlham school system.
He leaves his wife; two sons, John E. Chase of Des Moines and Verle A. Chase, Jr., who is stationed at Bolling Air base, Washington, D.C. with the United States Air force; a daughter, Marilyn Chase of Des Moines; and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Athey of Redfield.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Chase-McDonald cemetery.
