John Nelson Preston was the son of Nathan C. Preston and Hannah Garnett Preston. He was married to Patience Garnett Preston, and they had the following children: Patience Roberta, Rufus Monroe, William Herbert, John Wesley, Margie, and Wilbur Lee Preston. John N and his wife, Patience were double first cousins. His mother and her father were siblings and his father and her mother were 1st cousin, once removed. There were several first cousin marriages among their siblings and several more related marriage among this group of early Methodist settlers.
