He was born on May 17, 1931, in Luray and was a son of the late Lloyd Orville and Neva Virginia Sours Housden.
After working more than 30 years, Mr. Housden retired in 1987 from the office of personnel and management for Merrifield Sectional U.S. Postal Service.
He was a Navy veteran and member of the Stanley United Methodist Church.
On March 10, 1957, he married the former Betty Jean Alger, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sisters, Virginia Dovel and Gloria Jean Short, both of Luray, and Ethel Mae Hilliards and Deborah Jean Owens, both of Stanley; and three brothers, Cole Housden of Crimora, Johnnie F. Housden of Stanley, and Teddy Dale Housden of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Garland Lee Housden.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim R. Wingert.
Burial will be in the St. Luke Cemetery at Alma.
The family was to receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home.
