Arthur E. Ackelson, 90, formerly of Prospect, went to sing with the angels, having passed away Tuesday night at Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.
Born Sept. 14, 1914, in Canton . Ohio, he was the son of John E. and Nellie Auld Ackelson.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prospect.
Mr. Ackelson was a charter member of The Butler Notables and a member of The Rinky Dinks barbershop quartet in Butler. He also belonged to the Armco Veterans' Club. He was a founding member of the Prospect Boys Club and a former Boy Scout leader for the Prospect and Fenelton troops.
He retired as a melter in the open hearth at Armco-Butler Works after 38 years.
Surviving are his wife, whom he married July 2, 1985; two daughters; two sons; and a sister. He also is survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Chickar Ackelson, whom he married May 11, 1940, and who died Oct. 22, 1984; a daughter, Myra Ackelson; two brothers; and four sisters.
