She was born on a farm on the banks of the Shenandoah River on May 8, 1928, the only daughter of Harry Alexander and Sina Strole Keyser. She attended Radford for two years and then transferred to VPI (now Virginia Tech). She graduated in 1951 with a B.S. in Home Economics. She remained a lifelong Hokies fan.
She met her future husband, Grover Cleveland Goode, at a boarding house in Staunton, VA, where she was an extension agent and he a recent law school graduate. After their marriage in 1952, they moved to Bluefield, and shortly after, to Welch, where they lived for the next 42 years, making many true and life-long friends, before retiring to Beckley.
She taught home economics in Davy, and nutrition to nursing students at the McDowell County Vocational School; loved playing bridge with her bridge club; was active in scouting, and in her church wherever she lived.
In addition to her husband and parents, Janet was predeceased by her son Joseph Russell Goode, and her four brothers George, Julian, Harry (Bud), and Lynn Keyser.
She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Tony) Allen of Knoxville, TN, and Jana (Harry) Church of Beckley; grandchildren Jessica Jones, Mark Allen, Emily Turner, Kathryn (Kent) Southworth, Anne Allen, and step-grandson Matt (Sheri) Church. She met her great-grandchild, Will, two days before her death. She was able to stay in her own home for her final year thanks to the loving care provided by Liley and Mary.
Memorial services will be held at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley on Saturday, September 7 at 4 p.m, with Reverend Ellen File officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior. Interment to follow at a later date at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Stanley, VA.
