3 Killed in Country Road Crash
2 Women, Boy Victims of Collision Near Hazelton
OELWEIN — Three persons were killed last evening in a two-car collision at a county road intersection about three miles south and two miles east of Hazleton.
Dead were Larry DeMuth, 11, who was kilted instantly; his mother, Mrs. Larence DeMuth, 43, of Marion, and the driver of the other car, Gertrude LULOFF, 45, of Rt. 1, Aurora, both of whom died later at an Oelwein hospital.
Injured and in "fair" condition at the Oelwein hospital was the other passenger in Mrs. DeMuth's car, her daughter,
Janice, 14, with a broken arm and lacerations.
The DeMuths were former residents of Oelwein and were here visiting relatives.
THE FATALITIES were the third,. fourth, and fifth this year in Buchanan county.
Highway patrolmen said the cars met at the intersection and one car was hit broadside.
HIGHWAY P A T R O L M A N Henry Blumme said the DeMuth car was northbound and the second car was driven by Mrs. Luloff. Blumme said both cars were demolished. The DeMuth boy was pinned in the wreckage. His sister was found dazed near the scene.Lawrence DeMuth, husband and father of the victims, is a patient at a Cedar Rapids hospital, and was not with the family.
