Ollie Sue Butler
1924 - 2010
Ollie Sue Butler, age 85, of Point Washington, Fla., passed away Sept. 28, 2010.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1924, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., to Ollie and Evie Wesley Saltsman. Mrs. Butler was Methodist by faith and a lifelong member of Point Washington United Methodist Church, where she served as past treasurer. She graduated from Walton High School in 1945 and served as the Homecoming Queen. During her younger years she worked as a professional model in New York City. She also worked at Wainwright Shipyard during World War II in Panama City, Fla. She worked with the Boeing Co. on the Saturn Rocket Project for the Apollo Moon Program in New Orleans and Huntsville, Ala. She also worked as a tour guide at Eden State Park. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and working as a volunteer at Butler Elementary School and Caring and Sharing.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Gayle Godwin Parker; brother, Dick Saltsman; and sisters, Peggy Bailer and JoAnn Allen.
Mrs. Butler is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Albert Butler of Point Washington; one son, Gid Godwin of Point Washington; one stepdaughter, Teressa Butler of North Carolina; two nieces, Jill Bailer and Joyce Sunday; and three nephews, Steven Saltsman, John Saltsman and Robin Bailer.
Visitation services will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Stephen's Center at Point Washington United Methodist Church, 1290 North Highway 395, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Tim Meadows officiating.
Pallbearers will be Sam Wesley, Jody Wesley, Clay Morgan, George Schissler, William Schissler and Frank Schissler.
Flowers are being accepted, or donations may be made to the Point Washington United Methodist Church, 1290 North Highway 395, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. Burial will follow in Point Washington Cemetery.
