In Memory of Grandma Hunter
Grandma was born Oct. 29, 1824 in Rabun county, Ga., and was married to H. M Hunter August 2, 1849. She died January 4, 1903. She moved with her parents while quite young to Bastrop county and from there to Gordon county, Ga. She came with her husband to Texas in 1898, and has since made her home in and around Van Alstyne.
She leaves a husband and six children, and several grand children and great grand children to mourn her loss. Mrs. W. A. Pollard and T. W.Hunter of McGregor, Texas; Mrs. M. B. Morris of Maple, Texas; Mrs.A.S.Pinson of Westminster, Texas; Miss Etta Hunter and Taylor Hunter, who resided with her at her death.
She has been a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years. She was a good and kind mother and her children truly mourn the loss of a loving mother, and their bitterest grief was when she was no more, for what can be more bitter than the realization that the familiar face of mother is to be seen no more, and her voice never
more heard?
Grandma had been sick ever since the first week in November. We thought she was a great deal better until Thursday night before she died on Sunday. I was with her during her sickness and she was very patient, and seemed to be waiting for the end.
The funeral service took place at the Baptist church, after which her body was laid to rest in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. In their grief, those who are left behind have the deepest sympathy of all.
