James Harrison Evetts was a blacksmith at Washington on the Brazos. He went to San Jacinto with Sam Houston. He made himself a machete for the expected battle with the Mexican forces.

He fought in the Battle of San Jacinto and name is on the plaque in the museum at the monument on the battlefield.
