The deceased was born in Union county, Pennsylvania, July 24, 1800. He moved to Ohio in 1835 and settled in Crawford Co. He was the father of four children by his first wife, who died in 1840, and of six by his second wife, Nine of these children are living and eight attended their fathers funeral. For some time previous to his death Mr. Smith suffered from dropsy of the heart. He was for many years a member of the German Reformed Church. The funeral was held Thursday morning, July 20, at his late home, services being conducted by Rev. J. Haas, pastor of the M. E. church after which the remains were interred in the Roop burying ground.
