Alvin Roy Caviness, 84, of Shorts Creek went to be with the Lord and be reunited with his wife on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter Wanda.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Revs. James Lawson, Ronnie Stuart and Carl Forrester officiating.

Interment will be in the Memorial Christian Church Cemetery at Draper.

He was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Carroll County, son of the late George and Georgie Caviness.

He was a member of Pickett's Chapel Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Mabry Caviness; two sons, Archie Wayne Caviness and James Caviness; son-in-law, Buck Lang; grandson, Timmy Quesenberry; and a brother, June Caviness.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Lang of Christiansburg and Sharon Abel of Radford; four grandchildren and spouses, Lewis and Leah Quesenberry, Chris and Ruth Quesenberry, Rodney and Missy Quesenberry, all of Christiansburg, and Tina and Lee Beck of Mt. Airy, N.C.;
seven great-grandchildren, Travis, Maleah, Ashley, Josh, Brittany, Abbe and Emily;
a brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Marie Caviness of Austinville;
eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Bob Rosenbaum of Austinville, Mandy and Daniel Ogle of Austinville, Claudia Mabe of Woodlawn, Eloise Clontz of Hillsville, Cora and Bobby Lindsey of Hillsville, Iris and Junior Coble of Hillsville, Mamie Ann Brooks of Atkins and Betty Clyburn of Advance, N.C.;
two special sisters-in-law, Mattie Bell Coble of Barren Springs and Imogene Caviness of Austinville;
special brother-in-law, Claude Mabry of Barren Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laurel Rescue Squad, 1542 Rescue Road, Austinville, VA 24312.
