Mrs. Ethel Dolrease Deal Smith, age 79, passed away August 4th, 2010, at Brown's Health Care under the care of Odyssey Hospice. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was the daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel Yarborough Deal. Mrs. Smith was a hard worker on the family farm for many years, a nurse's aide at Statesboro Nursing Home and a caregiver to the elderly. She will be remembered as a loving mother and excellent cook. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; a step-mother, Grace Lee Deal; a sister, Margie Zimmerman and three brothers, Buddy Deal, Donald Deal and Elbert Deal.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James Foy and Gale Smith of Statesboro; a daughter, Judy Bonnett Smith of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Shelia B. Clark (Jamie Ellis), Clint Smith and Clay Smith all of Statesboro; a great grandchild, Cierra Clark of Statesboro; a step- sister, Jean Frawley of Brooklet; a step-brother and his wife, Billy and Ester Rushing of Statesboro; 3 half-brothers and four sisters-in-law, Travis and Alice Deal of Metter, Richard and Fay Deal of Clayton, Rusty and Lynda Deal of Statesboro and Dorothy Garrett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro with Elder Steve Taylor officiating, assisted by Elder Howard Rushing. Interment will be in the Eastside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brown's Healthcare and Odyssey Hospice for their excellent care.
