Howard Baker, Sr., 59, of Harbor, died this morning at Traverse City. Services were Tuesday from the Stone Funeral Home. Rev. Homer Yutzy officiated and burial was in Alanson Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was born March 9, 1909 at Louisville, Ky. and he came to Petoskey at about 18 years of age. He married Wanda Swadling November 16, 1931 in Petoskey and they made their home in Emmet County,
Mr. Baker was a member of the Parr Memorial Baptist Church.
About 26 years ago he had a heart attack which caused the loss of his sight.
Besides his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by eight daughters, Mrs. Glen (Rhoda) Leavitt and Mrs. Donald (Sally) Allen, of Cheboygan, Mrs. Lynn (Janet) Hite, of Flint, Mrs. Earl (Jean) Temple, of Oden, Mrs. Ray (Holly) Hatfield, of South Lebanon, Ohio, Mrs. Ernest (Margaret) Wurst and Mrs. Ray (Belinda) Wiggs, of Petoskey and Mrs. Gene (Mary) Pennington, of Louisville, Ky.; three sons, Howard, Jr. and Sidney, of Petoskey and Ross, of Harbor Springs; 29 grandchildren; one great grandchild and a brother, Harry, of St. Louis, Mich.
