Alta died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established for the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church of Pleasantview Home.
Alta was born April 5, 1919 in Kalona, the daughter of Ben M. and Cora Maude (Miller) Miller. She was united in marriage to Morris E. Swartzendruber on October 30, 1938 at the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church. Alta was a member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church where she was active in the Women's Sewing Group. Alta possessed the gift of hospitality that led her to cook and entertain for many people throughout her life. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed being with people and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include five children and spouses, Gareth (Mary) Swartzendruber of Holmes Beach, Fl, Marlene (Elmer) Yoder of Kalona, Virginia (Levon) Christophel of Monument, CO, Lorraine (John) Munk of Cary, NC, Lyndon (Linnea) Swartzendruber of Antigo, WI, 16 grandchildren, Derek Swartzendruber, Douglas Yoder, Darin Yoder, Todd Christophel, Craig Christophel, David Munk, Stephen Munk, Casey Swartzendruber, Kyle Swartzendruber, Daniel Swartzendruber, Brenda Brenneman, Lisa Beslic, Debra Murray, Krista Kiefer, Jessica Arrowood, Martine Swartzendruber, 18 great grandchildren, one brother, Cecil Miller of Kalona, and three sisters, Ila (Ellis) Swartzendruber of Kalona, Grace Miller of Kalona, Marjorie (Art) Roth of Julesburg, CO.
Preceding Alta in death were her parents, her husband Morris on February 13, 2002, two infant twin sisters, one sister in law, Verda Miller and one brother in law, Paul Miller.
Peterseim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
