He was of a family of nine children, six of whom are living, namely: two brothers, Walter of Raymond, South Dakota and Freely, of Carleton, four sisters, Mrs. T. J. Rowe, of Carleton, Mrs. Leota Emerick, of Hubbell, Nebr., Mrs. Joe Tiemans, of Athol, South Dakota and Mrs. Luella Riddle, of Raymond, South Dakota.
When about four years of age he came with his parents to Thayer County, Nebraska and has since lived around Carleton all these years, except four which he spent in Wyoming.
He was married to Cora Hughes on June 22, 1904, and to this union were born eleven children, all of whom are living.
He, with his wife became members of the Brethren Church in Carleton some years ago, during a revival held by Rev. F. G. Colemen.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the residence by Rev. W. R. Deeter of the Brethren Church of Carleton and burial was made at the Davenport Cemetery.
No day so drear, but even song,

No cell so locked but time ere long,

No loss so large but leaveth soil
Its waste to mend.
