The son of John and Cornelia Anderson and brother of George Anderson of Patch Grove and William Anderson of Arlington, Iowa. His birthplace was named after his grandfather Henry Patch. His working life was spent as a railroad engineer, working for the Great Northern, the Northern Pacific, and the Chicago, Milwaukee and Saint Paul lines. In April, 1900 he married Theresa Doyle Anderson and they had a daughter, Mrs. Ray Morris who gave them three grandchildren, Margery Ellen, Ray Maiben and William Lee Morris.
