Following graduation from Siloam Springs High School in 1972, Ron served four years in the United States Army, then returned to Northwest Arkansas where he worked various jobs and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1981. After spending a couple of years living and working in the Kansas City area he relocated to California.

Per death certificate information on Placer County Coroner's Record, interment of ashes will be at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, Solano County, California. As of 2 Jan 2016 this has not taken place.
