Mary M. Tobin, 83, of 4412 E. Rome West Road, died at 6:15 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2005, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Chillicothe to Archibald and Clara Wilhelm Boylan and was raised by Alfred and Anna Wilhelm. She married James J. Tobin on Dec. 26, 1942, in Peoria. He died on July 27, 1996, in Peoria.

One son, James Patrick, one daughter, Sheree Tobin, and two brothers also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Dennis of Los Angeles, Calif., Timothy, Michael both of Peoria, Illinois; one daughter, Kathleen of Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Margie of Seattle, Wash., and Jo of Phoenix, Ariz.

Mary carried on through the joys and tragedies of her life with an Irish spirit that everyone who knew her admired. With her earthy sense of humor, and impish twinkly-eyed smile, she easily made people around her laugh. Mary was deeply religious, especially in her devotion to the Blessed Mother, and in her travels she somehow worked her way to the front of a crowd and got her photo taken with Mother Theresa. She was very proud of that photo. Mary's legacy of caring for one's fellow man was instilled in her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who all remember that Mary's generous and loving heart exemplified the lifelong lesson that the world is about more than just ourselves and our own needs.
