John R. Reimer, 80, of 1121 W. Sunnyside died at 8:27 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. Born March 22, 1918, in Fort Gage to Albert and Mary Heinks Reimer, he married Helen Allington on Sept. 9, 1950, in Chillicothe. She died April 28, 1977. He married Mildred Russell in April 1979. She died in 1981. Four brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Joyce Dubois of Chillicothe; three brothers, Albert and Roy, both of Sparta, and Louis of Bellefontaine, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Wilson of Steeleville; and two grandchildren.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the USS Portland. He was in the battles of Guadalcanal, the Coral Sea and Midway. He served in the Naval Reserves from 1955 to 1974. He was a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4999 and a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
