HEART ATTACK TAKES LIFE OF F. PLETKA
Frank Joseph Pletka, 44, a resident of Carlsbad for the past four years, died at 11 a.m. Saturday after suffering a heart attack. He was dead on arrival at St. Francis Hospital.
Born Dec. 15, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a distributor for Borden's Milk, here, at the time of his death.
During World War II, he served with Battery D, 529th Field Artillery, a heavy artillery unit. He was awarded a bronze star medal for outstanding service with the unit. He also held an EAME ribbon, good conduct medal and World War II Victory medal.
Pletka was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, Rotary, Auxiliary Police, and I.O.O.F.
Funeral services at Carpenter Funeral Home are pending the arrival of relatives.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Pletka, an employee at St. Francis Hospital; three daughters, Kathryn, Suzanne and Christine, all of Carlsbad; one brother, Charles Pletka of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Lastovka, Mrs. Edward Rybnicek, Mrs. Florian Massey and Mrs. James Swanda, all of Carlsbad.

A rosary service for Frank Pletka, 44, 1002 Alvarado, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Carpenter Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Edwards Catholic Church with the most reverend Father Patrick Gauchat officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Garden Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be A.C. Reeves, C.A. Bohle, Jim Ruth, Andy Rice, Bob Miller and John Cathey. Members of the Auxiliary Police Force will serve as honorary pallbearers.
