Bernhard was born in Norberg in nortern part of Vastmanland county, Sweden. He accompanied his family upon their emigration to Worcester, MA, USA in 1887. His mother Charlotte died in Worcester 1891. His father Daniel married another Swedish immigrant Christine Johnson in 1893. They left US 1895 and setteled as farmers in Gwynne, Wetaskiwin county. A (step)sister of Bernhard stayed in Worcester.

Bernhards father and stepmother, retired in the Seattle area WA, US in 1911.

Bernhard married in July 1911 another Swedish immigrant, Martha Wiklund.

Bernard survived his wife and passed away a short time before Jan 20th, 1954. He was found dead near a water trough in his yard. There were signs of a blow to the head but it may have been due to a fall before or after death. He was buried Jan 24 1954.
