Robert L. Patterson, Jr., Pvt., Army Air corps, gunner on a B-17 bomber which was destroyed in mid-air collision at Las Vegas, Nev., army air field, Feb. 25, 1944. The accident occurred during a maneuver in which an AT-6 training plane was simulating an attack on the bomber. They collided in the air and the bomber exploded and crashed in flames, before the crewmen could bail out. Twelve of the crewmen perished only one surviving. He enlisted in Oct. 1942. Went to aerial gunnery school at Las Vegas, Nev., in Jan. 1944, where six weeks later he met death. He was scheduled to become an instructor at that field two weeks later. Son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Patterson, 1114 North Washington. Was associated with his father in the Patterson Laboratories, Hutchinson. His widow, Virginia, now at Fort Scott, Kans.
