Mathew, sometimes spelled with 2 T's. He was a blacksmith and also owned and orperated a grist mill. He married Mercy Richmond (59197719) of Taunton on June 18, 1774. Mercy is spelled, Marcy, Marcey and one other time as Mary. His second wife was Celia Reed (59245881). Celia is also spelled Cela and Cella.
Matthew served in the Revolutionary War in the Massachusetts militia. Marched to Rhode Island on the alarm of Dec. 8, 1776. On Oct. 2, 1777 he marched from Dighton on a secret expedition to Rhode Island and was discharged Oct. 29, 1777 by Gen. Spencer.
