Kenneth Altenburg
Kenneth I. Altenburg, 63, Route 1, Plover, died suddenly at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Hospital. He had been stricken earlier at his home and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
A lifelong resident of the Town of Plover, he was born there on July 16, 1909, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Altenburg. He attended schools in Portage County and on Sept. 22, 1928, he married Marion Stratton at Waupaca.
He operated a dairy farm with his father for a time and later was employed at Lippman Furniture Co. and then the Pagel Milling Co. Then for 25 years he owned and operated Altenburg's Farm Market and Greenhouses in the Town of Plover. He retired three years ago due to ill health.
Mr. and Mrs. Altenburg had recently returned from a two months visit in the south.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Sherwood Community Club.
Mr. Altenburg is survived by his wife; four sons, Eugene, of Mosinee, Harold, of Wisconsin Rapids; Neal, of Hancock, and Thomas, of Plainfield; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Olive) Sparhawk, Beloit, and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Steinke, Route 1, Plover; 20 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Calkins, Route 1, Plover, and Mrs. Alta Emmes, Wisconsin Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at the Boston Funeral Home after 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Plover United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lyndon Viel officiating. Burial will be made in the Maine Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name.

Stevens Point - Kenneth I. Altenburg, 63, Rt. 1, Plover, died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, following a heart attack at his home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Plover United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lyndon Viel officiating. Burial will be in Maine Cemetery, town of Plover.
