William L. Palmer died at his Red Brook residence early Sanday afternoon from congestive pneumonia. He became ill last Monday morning and from the first the doctor had little hope for his recovery.
Mr. Palmer was one of our most prominent citizens and was greatly respected. His death is a severe blow to the Congregational church in which he was such an earnest worker and supporter. He was one of the youngest of a family of eight children, the only survivors being Capt. Alexander S Palmer, and Mrs. Charles Stanton, both of this place.
When a young man Mr. Palmer went to New Orleans where, in partnership. with the late Warren Stanton, he carried on business till the close of the war, baring accumulated considerable wealth. He then returned to Stonington where he lived until his death.
He was about 70 years of age. Two sons, Theore D, Palmer and W. L. Palmer, Jr., his daughter, Mrs. Letchford of New Orleans, and several grandchildren
