JAMES P. JOHNSON DIES ON FRIDAY
Old Settler of this County Dies at Age of Eighty-eight.

James P. Johnson, one of the oldest settlers in this city, passed away at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Frank Johnson, on Friday morning at 1:00 o'clock. Mr. Johnson, who was eighty-eight years of age, was one of the oldest settlers of this section, having come here in 1872, forty-two years ago. Mr. Johnson has engaged in several different businesses in the city since his residence here, having been in the hardware and mercantile stores here at different times.
Mr. Johnson has buried all of his family and at his ripe old age has seen one after another of his loved ones laid to rest and will now join his family where they are all buried together in the Kearney cemetery. (Those preceding him in death are his wife, Jane; daughters, Dora Johnson, Laura Hanson, Harriet Worsley; and son Ira Johnson.) Mr. Johnson leaves no relatives except one sister at Dallas, Texas, and one granddaughter and grandson, both children of the late Ira Johnson of Springfield, Massachusetts. The granddaughter will be here for the services. The grandson, Frank Johnson, has not been located.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon, but the hour has not as yet been set, but will be announced tomorrow night.
