The son of Wilhelm Pehm and Christina Behrens, Rudolph was born in Boerger, Germany. He arrived in America on 16 Nov 1857 aboard the O'Thyen.

Rudolph married Regina Brinker on 06 Sep 1864 in Calhoun County, Illinois. They were the parents of 11 children, but several died in infancy or early childhood. As was common at the time, some names were "re-used" for younger siblings if the older child with that name had already died.

At the time of his death, Rudolph was 73 years and 30 days old. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina, who passed away in 1904.
