Hilda Hordyk (Van De Witte), age 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 16, 2010 after fighting a nine month long battle with cancer.
She was born July 13, 1942 in El Monte CA, to Piet and Frances Van De Witte. She graduated from Paramount High School in 1960. During high school she met the love of her life William Hordyk at a local ice skating rink. On July 1, 1961, they married and lived a happy life together for 49 years. She lived in Paramount, Cerritos and Rancho Cucamonga. She loved the many children she cared for throughout the years. She had been a major influence on the lives of each and every one of them. Her passion for life and love of others will live on through them. Hilda will be especially remembered for the love of her family, the ability to make every family gathering special. Her Saturday morning "yard sales", traveling the world with the love of her life "OPA," hummingbirds, turtles and her amazing cooking. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all.
Survivors include husband William Hordyk, son Leo Hordyk (Wrightwood), daughters Frances Putnam (Donald) Rancho Cucamonga, Elizabeth Walters (David) Carlsbad, Hilda Macias (Alfredo) Upland, five grandchildren (Janell, Jessica, William, Elisabeth, and Ashley), brother Pete Van De Witte (Chino), sister Julia Wind (Artesia) and brother Richard Van De Witte (Las Vegas).
Viewing will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 6pm to 8pm at Lincoln Avenue Community Church, 1511 Lincoln Avenue, Pomona, CA 91767. Services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 10am, at Lincoln Avenue Community Church. Gravesite services will be conducted at 2:30 pm, at Forest Lawn, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA.
Hilda was a member of Lincoln Avenue Community Church for over 40 years.
