Lessie was the daughter of Mathias and Lucinda Handley Striker. She was the 8th of 12 children born to the couple, and was born and raised in Adams County, Indiana. In November 1892, she married Elmer J Ray, also of Adams County, and they had 6 children. She and Elmer farmed in Adams County. Elmer died in 1915, and Lessie became a housekeeper in the home of John Durr. She developed tuberculosis and passed away 9 Apr 1922 in a sanitarium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is buried with Elmer in Ray Cemetery, Monroe Township, Adams County, Indiana.
