WARREN D. "HAX" HAXTON

Warren D. "Hax" Haxton, 75, Raytown, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 2, 1997, at his home. Private graveside services will be held at floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. The family requests no flowers, and suggests memorial contributions to the Raytown Area Retired Teachers/Scholarship Fund c/o Bill Barnes, 19004 N. Waterfield Lane, Blue Springs, Missouri.
Mr. Haxton was born July 22, 1921, on a farm in Rice County, Kansas and was educated in Chase, Kansas. He was an outstanding basketball player and a 1943 graduate of Fort Hays State Teachers College. He was a 1951 gradute of the University of Colorado. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served as Skipper of a U. S. Naval LCT in the Pacific. He was married to Elizabeth Ellen Landrum, August 4, 1945. After serving in the Navy, he taught and coached in Larnard and Colby, Kansas. He moved to Raytown in 1951 and started a teaching career at Raytown High School, lasting until his retirement in 1982. He then worked for eight seasons at Yellowstone National Park. Mr. Haxton was a Mason and a member of the Ararat Shrine. He enjoyed woodworking and belonged to the Road Roamers Camp Club. He was a charter member of the Raytown Teachers Credit Union and was a member of the Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Ellen Haxton, of the home; sons, Chuck Haxton, Kansas City, Missouri. and Clint Haxton, Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Harriet Rainey, Raytown, Missouri; and four grandsons.
