Son of George Washington & Susie Ellen (Linville) Mitchell...Husband of Mabel Clow Stanford... Known by his family as Byron, but known about others as "Shorty", a name which he did not like. He had no children, but did have a step-daughter, Lenora, who he raised as his own. Several years after Mabel's death he married Mary Swanson, a long time friend of the family. Byron was the youngest in his family. He was the brother of 3 sisters (Ettie Irene, Lula Gladys & Eula Nancy) and a stillborn brother. (He told me that most of his family didn't know about the stillborn brother, so I enter it here that perhaps other family members will be able to find this and know about the brother). Byron had many occupations in his lifetime. I most remember him for raising baby chicks to the fryer stage. I'd get to go with him to feed them. It was an amazing site to me (aged about 5-10) to see so many little baby chicks - about 400 per shed (chick coop). As you'd walk by most would move away, but as soon as their food was down, they didn't move. I loved to go with him. In his later years he worked for the city of Milton-Freewater at the city dump and from this job he retired. [bio written by his niece, Betty Clark Hanson)
