Mabel was raised in Kiron and attended the Kiron School graduating from the high school there in 1925. She was united in marriage to Ernest Emil Gustafson on June 2, 1934 at the Kiron Baptist Church. They made their home on farms near Kiron where they lived their entire married life. After the death of her husband Ernest in 1963 Mabel continued to live on the farm. Mabel was self-employed all her life in many different fields including farming, teaching, a wedding consultant and a contributing columnist and motivator for Passeport Jewelry Company of Kiron. She was a long time and very active member of the First Baptist Church in Kiron, a life long honorary member of 4-H, and a charter member of the Kiron Senior Citizens organization.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest and two brothers, Clarence and John Eldon Clauson.
Survivors include her four children, Dennis of Kiron, Glenn of Thousand Oaks, CA, Nancy, Mrs. Dale Swan, of St. Louis Park, MN and Nelda Ann Gustafson of Minnetonka, MN, seven grandchildren, several children who were reared in her home and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 Friday, June 8, 1979 at the First Baptist Church in Kiron with the Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Music was provided by Bueal Hedstrom and Lewellyn Larson as vocalists and Mrs. Ferne Wilson as organist. Attendants included Marc, Alan and John Gustafson, Dwain Swensen, Mike Clauson and Kent Paulson. Burial was in the Kiron Cemetery. The Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
